The Taiwan Matsuzawa Headquarters Factory is currently under intense preparation and is expected to officially begin operations this year. The establishment of this headquarters not only marks a significant milestone for Matsuzawa in Taiwan but also symbolizes a new era of collaboration in seismic technology between Taiwan and Japan. The partnership between Taiwan Matsuzawa and Japan's OILES is set to bring revolutionary seismic products to Taiwan's construction industry.
The Taiwan Matsuzawa Factory has garnered significant attention from the Japanese side. In mid-August, OILES Chairman Iida personally visited Taiwan to inspect the progress of the Matsuzawa Headquarters Factory, demonstrating his deep anticipation for the project's future development. Chairman Iida noted that the Taiwan Matsuzawa Headquarters Factory is equipped with the most advanced equipment, surpassing even that of the Japanese headquarters, laying a solid foundation for future high-efficiency production.
Seismic Products Tailored for the Taiwan Market — Friction-Based Damping Wall WFD
Earthquake resistance has become a crucial consideration for new constructions in Taiwan. However, its widespread adoption still faces numerous challenges. Therefore, through intensive collaboration between Taiwan and Japan, it is vital to raise public awareness of seismic knowledge, helping people understand the importance of a building's seismic performance and the quality of seismic isolation devices.
The devastating Hualien earthquake on April 3, 2024, profoundly impacted Taiwanese society and further highlighted the urgency of promoting seismic and isolation design in buildings. Incorporating the experience from relevant Japanese organizations will help improve the quality and reliability of Taiwanese buildings, enhancing public confidence in and acceptance of earthquake-resistant structures.
In summary, seismic-resistant construction is one of the key ways to enhance Taiwan's building resilience. Matsuzawa and OILES have jointly developed a new, improved seismic product—the friction-based damping wall WFD. The WFD is specifically tailored for the Taiwan market, featuring smaller dimensions and a more competitive price, effectively reducing construction costs for buildings.
Technology Transfer and Commitment to Quality Control
OILES, a specialized brand with over 70 years of history, holds a high reputation for quality in the Japanese domestic market. The Matsuzawa Headquarters Factory upholds OILES' consistent high standards, aligning with the Japanese headquarters in everything from the supply of key patented materials to product inspection. OILES not only supplies the materials but also collaborates with Taiwan in designing and testing machinery. Before shipment, the quality control data from the Taiwan factory is remotely verified to ensure that every batch of products meets the highest standards.
Earlier this year, members of Matsuzawa's marketing and technical team traveled to OILES' headquarters in Japan for a three-month technical training program. They brought back half a century of OILES' expertise to Taiwan, building upon it with innovative and deep improvements. Going forward, we will continue to send structural design engineers to Japan to ensure we provide the most comprehensive consulting and assessment services throughout the building process.
Looking Ahead: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals
The production equipment and other facilities within the Matsuzawa Headquarters Factory are already in place, and staff training is actively underway, simulating actual production operations to ensure smooth functioning when the factory officially starts. In October, a team of OILES experts from Japan will visit Taiwan again to assess the readiness of the production process.
As the factory completes the technology transfer and quality control audits from the Japanese headquarters, the Matsuzawa Headquarters will become one of the key global sites for OILES, alongside those in North America, Germany, the Czech Republic, Shanghai, Thailand, and India, now firmly rooted in Taiwan. Through local production, we will realize the collaboration and transfer of technology between Taiwan and Japan while reducing carbon emissions from transportation. The factory has also introduced low-energy consumption equipment, actively promoting energy efficiency assessments. As part of our corporate ESG goals, we aim to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are emphasized by the OILES headquarters in Japan.
