Taiwan Matsuzawa x OILES: New Seismic Isolation Product Launch Event

Originally published on Dec 10, 2022

Taiwan Matsuzawa and Japan's OILES successfully held a joint launch event for their new seismic isolation product. Taiwan, located on the boundary between the Eurasian and Philippine tectonic plates, experiences hundreds of minor earthquakes annually, with the greatest concern being large quakes. Even if a building does not collapse, it can suffer significant damage after a major quake. For many, their home represents a lifetime of hard work, and seismic isolation is essential for safeguarding lives and property.

Taiwan Matsuzawa has long been dedicated to promoting seismic isolation because it effectively reduces the damage from strong earthquakes. We hope that this safety technology will extend beyond luxury homes to become widely used, ensuring that everyone lives in the safest structures possible. Promoting seismic safety in residential buildings is not only beneficial for the construction industry but also a social responsibility.

Taiwan Matsuzawa, in collaboration with OILES, has developed new seismic isolation products designed for buildings up to 10 stories. This innovation significantly enhances residential safety in Taiwan, creating materials that meet the needs of new seismic isolation building structures while reducing the barriers and costs of making homes "earthquake-proof."

At the 2022 Taipei International Building Materials and Products Exhibition, new products were unveiled:

  • TSSR: A new seismic isolation device.

  • WFD: A high-durability friction-type damping wall.

  • VWD: A high-performance damping wall for high-rise buildings.

The presentation featured Koichi Masuda, Deputy Director of the OILES Seismic Isolation Division, who explained the new products' details, their performance, and the differences from locally developed designs. The new products utilize OILES' patented friction materials, which significantly reduce building sway and damage during earthquakes. These innovations are suitable for smaller projects like urban renewal and also help lower construction costs.

The partnership between Taiwan Matsuzawa and OILES has evolved from a simple agency-supplier relationship to an inseparable collaboration, marking a new milestone in Taiwan-Japan cooperation and ushering in a new era of earthquake safety in Taiwan.

For inquiries about seismic isolation buildings or more information, Taiwan Matsuzawa offers comprehensive support, including pre-consultation, installation, and post-maintenance. We welcome inquiries from builders, architects, engineers, and the general public.
