Originally published on Sep 18, 2022

On September 18, 2022, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Yuli in Hualien, causing severe damage and building collapses. The tremors were also strongly felt in Yilan.

The seismic isolation project "Lee Shinn Sky Tower," located next to the Yilan County Government Center, effectively utilized Japanese OILES seismic isolators. These devices successfully absorbed 70% of the seismic energy, as demonstrated in the footage of the isolators' performance on the day of the quake. The seismic isolators played a crucial role in safeguarding the residents' safety.
